Bandwise – Privacy policy

Bandwise is an IELTS practice app published by Jotech. This policy explains what happens to your information when you use it.

What stays on your device

Your profile (name, test type, target band, exam date), test answers and scores, essays, speaking transcripts, vocabulary progress and settings are stored only in the app's local storage on your device. Bandwise has no account system and no server that receives this information.

Microphone

The Speaking simulator asks for microphone access so you can record and replay your answers. Recordings stay in memory on your device and are discarded when you leave the results screen unless you save them yourself.

Speech services

Listening audio and the examiner's voice use your device's text-to-speech voices. Live speaking transcripts use your device's or browser's speech-recognition service; depending on your system, that service may process audio online under its provider's privacy terms (for Windows, Microsoft). You can practise without transcripts.

Optional AI marking

If you turn on AI marking and enter your own API key, the text of an essay or speaking transcript (with the task prompt) is sent directly from your device to the AI provider you selected, only when you press the AI marking button. Your key is stored only on your device and is not included in exported backups. The provider's own privacy terms apply to that request.

Updates to the exam guide

When you are online, the app may download an updated version of its exam-rules file from the same website that hosts the app. No personal information is sent with this request.

Analytics and advertising

Bandwise contains no advertising, analytics or tracking.

Your choices

You can export or erase all your data at any time in Settings. Uninstalling the app also removes its local data.
